About the Artist

Hello! My name is Madison, and I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I got my BFA in 2017 from Belmont University, and have since spent most of my time working as an art teacher while also working to launch Madison Kent Art. I love to create, and that spirit of constant learning and exploration has followed me throughout my life. I’m always trying to learn new skills and working towards new goals. My artwork is primarily painting and pottery, but I tend to dabble in a little bit of everything creative- crafting, music, cooking, and even a growing interest in gardening! When I’m not immersed in a project, I love spending time with my people and being outside. Thank you for your interest in my work! I hope you find something that will become a treasured addition to your space.

Artist Statement

Home. Sometimes it’s a place, sometimes it’s a person or a feeling, but within that idea of “home” is a sense of comfort, satisfaction, nostalgia, and belonging . This idea of home has become the running thread throughout the different types of my work. Whether it is in a painting of a place one calls “home,” an homage to an important memory, or a dish in which one can enjoy a home-cooked meal, I seek to use my art to celebrate that the simplest things are often the most profound, and how all of those things contribute to that sense of belonging in the world. To me, this profundity can be found in things so simple as the delicacy and vibrance of a flower, the smell of summer rain, the adventurous spirit of a child, the smell of a good meal being prepared in the kitchen, or the towering trees that shelter us from the sun. I am propelled to try to save these things in glimpses made of color and lines. I want to capture that whimsy with gestural marks and layered colors that produce sensational textures that mimic the dichotomy of simplicity and complexity of the stories that make up life and the world in which we live.
